You’ve written a first draft of your memoir and are now ready to develop your work.
I will read and analyze your manuscript, providing feedback on the big-picture elements which will assist you in shaping your narrative, developing your themes and ideas, fixing major plot inconsistencies, and solidifying the structure of your story.
You will receive an editorial report, providing you with a full critique of your manuscript including areas for improvement as well as areas of strength. You will also receive a fully marked-up manuscript with specific feedback and suggestions for improvement throughout.
You have a first draft (or most of a first draft) of your manuscript, but you need an outside eye to help point you towards your next step.
A manuscript evaluation is a preliminary developmental edit for authors who aren’t quite ready for a full developmental edit.
You will receive an evaluation in the form of a report, including broad feedback, concrete suggestions about how to structure your story, and where to focus your time and energy.
Your manuscript has an overall structure you’re happy with, and you’re looking for sentence-level improvement.
I will support your story by focusing on the content and flow of your writing, clarifying meaning, tightening prose, ensuring consistent tense and usage, eliminating redundancy, and flagging any plot holes or missing information.
Stylistic editing improves the flow of your story and ensures your voice shines through in your writing.
You are happy with the structure and style of your manuscript, and you are ready to get down to the details.
I will ensure correctness, consistency, and completeness of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage; implement consistency of mechanical elements; develop (or adhere to) a style sheet; and query information that should be checked for accuracy.
Copyediting propels your completed work towards publication with the addition of fine detail and professionalism.
Your manuscript has already been professionally edited and you are looking for a final tidy-up before publication.
I will comb through your manuscript to catch any remaining spelling or grammar errors, ensure consistency and accuracy of mechanics throughout, and confirm adherence to design.
Proofreading adds the final polish to your completed work.
